Myofascial Release/Stretching--30 minutes

Myofascial Release/Stretching--30 minutes

Soft tissue and joint mobilization is delivered through a hands-on approach (manual therapy), using skilled manual/physical medicine to effect changes in the soft tissues (including muscles, connective tissue as well as fascial tissue, and joint structures) with the purpose of improving function and range of motion. While it is important to assess and treat all aspects of the musculoskeletal system associated with any specific injury, one cannot ignore the role and importance of fascial tissue. Fascia is like a big cobweb that runs throughout your entire body, covering every muscle fiber. In its non-stretchy form, it’s the substance that makes up tendons, which attach muscle to bone, and ligaments, which attach bone to bone. Fascia has numerous jobs, including protecting the muscle and allowing for muscle elasticity. Its interconnected nature means that everything in the body is connected to everything else. When one part of the matrix is injured or compromised in any way, it can affect tissues that are far from the original site of the injury or impairment. When an injury occurs, for example, a muscle pull or sprain, the muscle is often able to heal very quickly. However, the fascia, which has also been pulled out of alignment, never returns to its normal positioning. This can cause other areas to overcompensate for the initial injured area, pulling them out of alignment and thus creating new injuries. What started as a simple ankle sprain, without proper treatment, can lead to knee or hip pain. Fascia, or connective tissue, has little to no blood supply and therefore its healing capabilities are limited. When you suffer an injury, the fascial tissue will remain distorted until manually corrected.

Ultrasound --10 minutes

Ultrasound --10 minutes

It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect. A greater power density (measured in watt/cm2 is often used in cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal. Ultrasound can also be used to achieve phonophoresis. This is a non-invasive way of administering medications to tissues below the skin; perfect for patients who are uncomfortable with injections. With this technique, the ultrasonic energy forces the medication through the skin. Cortisone, used to reduce inflammation, is one of the more commonly used substances delivered in this way.

Raindrop Aromatherapy Massage/Raindrop Technique by Young Living

Raindrop Aromatherapy Massage/Raindrop Technique by Young Living

This 60 minute therapy is a wonderfully rejuvenating and deeply relaxing topical application of therapeutic essential oils. Raindrop Therapy combines several holistic modalities to bring balance to the body in a non-invasive manner. It also stimulates all of the body systems on a physical and emotional level. The oils used in Raindrop are therapeutic grade and NOT adulterated oils. Adulterated oils contain synthetic chemicals or compounds and can be harmful to the body. The relaxing and mild application of the therapeutic-grade oils are gently dispensed like “little raindrops” up along the spine and back. The oils are worked into the skin by using soft feather-like movements and strokes. The essential oils are also applied to soles of feet and shoulders for reinforced benefits.

Flexion Distraction/Spinal Decompression--10 minutes

Flexion Distraction/Spinal Decompression--10 minutes

Flexion-Distraction, (F/D) is a gentle, chiropractic treatment procedure utilized for back and neck pain. Flexion-Distraction is a safe alternative to back surgery for those 95% of patients whose conditions do not demand surgical intervention. The doctor is in control of the treatment movements at all times. Flexion-Distraction is utilized for many conditions such as: Failed Back surgical Syndromes Disc Herniation/Ruptured Disc / Bulging Disc / Herniated Disc Sciatica / Leg pain "Whiplash" injuries Stenosis Arm Pain Neck Pain Failed course of Steroid Injections Chemical Radiculitis Spondylolisthesis Headache Transitional segment Many more conditions…. How does Flexion-Distraction Work? For Disc related conditions: Increases the intervertebral disc height to remove annular tension on the annular fibers and nerve by making more room and improving circulation. Allows the nucleus pulposus, the center of the disc, to assume its central position within the annular fibers and relieves irritation of the spinal nerve. Restores vertebral joints to their physiological relationships of motion. Improves posture and locomotion while relieving pain, improving body functions, and creating a state of well-being. For Non-Disc related conditions: Patients with other conditions causing back pain (facet syndrome, spondylolisthesis, sprain/strain, scoliosis, transitional vertebra, sacroiliac restrictions and misalignment, certain types of spinal stenosis), Flexion/Distraction provides all of the above benefits plus the ability to place the spinal joints into normal, painless movements so as to restore spinal motion without pain: The posterior disc space increases in height. F/D decreases disc protrusion and reduces stenosis. Flexion stretches the ligamentum flavum to reduce stenosis. Flexion opens the vertebral canal by 2 mm (16%) or 3.5 to 6mm more than extension. Flexion increases metabolite transport into the disc. Flexion opens the apophyseal joints and reduces posterior disc stress The nucleus pulposus does not move on flexion. Intradiscal pressure drops under distraction to below 100mm Hg. On extension the nucleus or annulus is seen to protrude posterior into the vertebral canal. Intervertebral foraminal openings enlarge giving patency to the nerve.
